Statement on White House FY20 Budget Proposal
March 15, 2019
In response to the budget request to Congress, MENTOR CEO David Shapiro said:
We stand for making public investment in our youngest and most vulnerable a priority. The White House’s budget proposal cuts by nearly 40% the Youth Mentoring Grant, a program that is grounded in evidence-based research to deliver positive and proven outcomes for young people, including social development and academic achievement. What’s best for our collective present and future requires the supports and connections that both experience and proof demonstrate are needed for healthy development and safe, thriving communities. Our elected leaders must fully invest in young people if they are to create and support our nation’s values and prosperity.
