How do mentors help youth?
Mentors are supportive individuals who build relationships with young people by offering them guidance, support, and encouragement to help cultivate positive and healthy development.
They are not meant to replace parents, guardians, or teachers, nor do they play the role of disciplinarians or decision makers. Rather, they become part of a community of caring adults that surround and support young people. Mentors can help empower good decision-making, promote high self-esteem, support academic achievement, and generally contribute to holistic growth.

85% of young people said their mentor helped them with academic challenges and career goals.

Youth with mentors are 22% more likely to experience a sense of belonging while growing up.

58% of young people say that their mentor supports their mental health. Mentors also help youth make healthy decisions in everyday life including nutrition, exercise, social activities, and beyond.
