MENTOR Welcomes New Board Chair, Thomasina “Tomi” Hiers

MENTOR is proud to announce the appointment of Thomasina “Tomi” Hiers, Vice President at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, as the new Chair of MENTOR’s Board of Directors.  

A nationally respected leader in philanthropy, youth development, and systems change, Tomi has dedicated her career to expanding opportunities for young people and strengthening the conditions that help communities thrive. Her leadership reflects a deep commitment to advancing equity, cultivating meaningful relationships, and ensuring that all young people have access to the support, connections, and opportunities they need to reach their full potential.  

Throughout her distinguished career, Tomi has championed innovative approaches to improving outcomes for children, youth, and families. She brings to this role a powerful combination of strategic vision, collaborative leadership, and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of relationships.  

“As we look toward the future of the mentoring movement, Tomi’s leadership comes at a pivotal moment,” said Jermaine Myrie, CEO of MENTOR. “Her expertise, insight, and commitment to creating pathways of opportunity for young people will help guide MENTOR as we continue to strengthen mentoring as a critical component of our nation’s social infrastructure.”

Under Tomi’s leadership as Board Chair, MENTOR will continue advancing its mission to expand and strengthen the mentoring movement, ensuring more young people have access to the relationships that open doors and change lives.  

Reflecting on her appointment and the work ahead, Tomi said:

Tomi succeeds Ernie Anguilla, whose dedicated service as Board Chair helped guide MENTOR through a period of growth, innovation, and strategic evolution. We are deeply grateful for Ernie’s leadership and enduring contributions to the mentoring movement.
