Advocacy August 2022 is here!

Mentoring is an evidence-based prevention and intervention strategy that leads to numerous positive outcomes for young people. That’s why this year, for Advocacy August, we’ll be focusing on a different topic for the five weeks in the month:
- Week of August 1: Mentoring and the Future Workforce
- Week of August 8: Mental Health and Wellness and Mentoring
- Week of August 15: Critical and Inclusive Mentoring
- Week of August 22: Mentoring and Community Violence Prevention and Intervention
- Week of August 29: Mentoring Relationships in Education
Throughout each week, we’ll share the following:
- Resources and blogs with research and information about the intersection of mentoring and the topic of the week
- Stories and quotes about impact from congressional briefings and events
- A unique Action Alert written specifically for each week’s issue. The Action Alert will include template language for you to use to write to your Members of Congress and urge their support for specific legislation. Check mentoring.org/advocacy each week and take just two minutes to advocate!
Here are some additional opportunities to learn and take action to advocate for the mentoring movement:
- Sign up for the Advocate Academy. MENTOR’s Advocate Academy trains individuals to develop their personal policy and advocacy skills to become more civically engaged citizens and effective advocates for the issues they care about. The academy is a free skill and professional development opportunity that is open to anyone interested in attending, including youth. Learn more and register here!
- Deep dive on our Advocacy August webpage. On this site, you can learn more about our legislative platform and other key initiatives. You can also check out voter registration information and other advocacy resources.
- Nominate a Mayor for Mentoring. Check out this webpage to learn more about what Mayors across the country are doing to elevate youth mentoring in their community. Do you know a Mayor who deserves recognition? Nominate them here!
