AMERICORPS VISTA SPOTLIGHT: ALISSA TALBERT
August 17, 2020
During my four years at Salisbury University, I played for the Women’s Lacrosse team. As an underclassman, I valued being surrounded by constant support and guidance from my coaching staff and teammates. We had a “little sister, big sister” support structure on the team that provided an opportunity for underclassmen to connect with older and wiser teammates. I eventually became a leader on the team and was able to have tough discussions about priorities and life lessons learned through this shared experience with the new batch of underclassmen.
I have been given the unique opportunity as a VISTA to go through a similar process. I am constantly learning from my supervisor, my department, and others at MENTOR. As a VISTA, I will be able to translate this knowledge to others entering this year of service, especially at MENTOR.
