2027 National Mentoring Summit Workshop Proposals

2027 Workshop Proposals are now open!

Starting April 13, MENTOR will be seeking proposals for workshop presentations at the 2027 National Mentoring Summit scheduled for January 28 – 29, 2027 at The Westin Washington, D.C. Downtown.

Submission Deadline: Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET

The National Mentoring Summit

MENTOR’s seventeenth annual National Mentoring Summit will convene individuals representing the mentoring movement, including practitioners, researchers, philanthropic investors, youth leaders, government and civic leaders, and MENTOR Affiliates. The National Mentoring Summit garners support from both the private and public sectors, including a group of national mentoring and youth-serving organizations who serve as supporting partners. This is an annual opportunity for the mentoring movement to advance a collective mentoring agenda, strengthen programs and practices, and collaborate to support positive youth development through mentoring.

The 2026 National Mentoring Summit hosted nearly 1,000 participants and featured over 80 competitively selected workshops.

What 2026 Presenters Said

“I’ve presented at several national conferences, and this was by far the most organized and best supported for applicants and presenters. The support and guidance was exceptional.”

“The most meaningful aspect of being a presenter was the opportunity to engage directly with mentoring leaders from across the country. My workshop was highly interactive, and seeing participants actively reflect, share, and connect their experiences to the session content was incredibly powerful. It reinforced the importance of collaborative learning and national movement-building in the mentoring space.”

“The overall presenter experience was very well organized and supportive. The MENTOR staff were responsive, professional, and thoughtful throughout the preparation and during the Summit itself. The communication leading up to the event was clear, and I appreciated the structure provided to help presenters prepare effectively.”

“Providing the opportunity for attendees to interact with each other and answer each other’s questions was really powerful. It felt like they not only got the chance to learn from me, but from others as well.”

You will need to bring your own laptop. Every room is equipped with a gooseneck microphone attached to the podium; we cannot guarantee that you will be provided with wireless handheld microphones.

Be sure to include any accessibility needs, accommodation, or requests for other AV equipment on your application. The Summit planning team will review these requests and make every effort to honor them. We will notify you of our ability to accommodate your request.

All rooms will be set up in theater style (rows of chairs) or in rounds (round tables that fit about 8 people each). If you have a specific request for theater style, rounds, or a different setup, it must be requested here.

We assign rooms and capacities to workshops in the fall once we have reached a critical mass of registrants. The maximum number of participants a workshop can have is 150 participants, with the minimum number around 30 participants. Most workshops have around 40 – 60 participants.

There are no serious trends based on registration; all types of workshops get selected quickly. Based on our surveys, Summit attendees have expressed particular interest in the topics below for future Summits:

  • Supporting immigrant youth
  • Authentic and meaningful youth voice/engagement
  • Mentor recruitment strategies
  • Innovative strategies for matching
  • Improving data collection, analyses, and management
  • Virtual mentoring programs
  • Supporting youth of color
  • Combatting bigotry in communities
  • Navigating power dynamics
  • Executive/CEO level topics
  • Funding and fundraising
  • Navigating absenteeism
  • AI usage
  • Grassroots mentoring programs
  • Volunteer management
  • Trauma-informed mentoring
  • Rural mentoring
  • How nonprofits/programs can advocate for themselves

Your application will be scored by two members of the Summit Workshop Review Committee based on the following criteria:

  • Expertise (Presenter has clear expertise (lived and/or professional) in the topic and experience in the mentoring field.)
  • Clarity (The application clearly describes learning objectives and structure of the workshop.)
  • Relevance of Topic (The topic is relevant, innovative, and addresses one of the topic areas described in the "Workshop Information" section of the RFP.)
  • Practicality (Application provides actionable information, skills and tools that can be implemented in attendees' work.)
  • Methodology (Application describes materials to be used, addresses various learning styles, and meets the needs of adult learners. The session has a thoughtful mix of presentation and interactive engagement.)
  • Alignment with MENTOR values (The presenters demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within their workshop.)

A strong workshop proposal provides a clear and vivid picture of what the workshop will look like on the day. It includes a dynamic structure that blends both presentation and interactive activities. Proposals that showcase thoughtful pacing, incorporate DEIB principles throughout the content, and offer guidance for practical application are highly encouraged. Be sure to include why this workshop is relevant, and why you (and any co-presenters) are the ideal facilitators for this topic.

If you would like to learn more, we will be hosting a Summit Workshop Information Session on May 6, register here.

Please do not use generative AI applications to write your proposal.

For each workshop, one speaker will be given a complimentary registration code, and one will be given a discounted registration code. Speakers are responsible for their own travel and hotel accommodations, though MENTOR will release information in the fall about our discounted hotel room block at the Westin D.C. Downtown.

While we recommend that you add all presenters to the application, you may add presenters later on if you do not currently have that information.

We schedule our workshops to present a diverse array of topics across each workshop time slot. You will receive information about which day and timeslot your workshop within the month leading up to the Summit.
