Resources for Support and Action: Denouncing Hate and Violence Against Asian Americans, Asian Immigrants, and the Pacific Islander Community
March 29, 2021
As we witnessed the rising incidences of hate speech and violence against Asian Americans, Asian immigrants, and the Pacific Islander community in recent months exacerbated by the irresponsible words and false narratives created around the pandemic, we sounded our voices against violence and hate speech in solidarity with #StopAsianHate. After condemning these actions on social media, the most heinous incarnation of evil occurred through the mass shootings in Atlanta and the tragic loss of lives of mothers, fathers, mentors, and friends.
Once again, we want to affirm our belief that the only way to commit to deeper understanding, love, and progress is to commit to action. With the help of our team and partners, we have put together some resources to discuss racism as we build and navigate relationships with our young people:
- For adults exploring their own biases and understanding of race and identity, learn more about MENTOR’s online modules here.
- For adults supporting youth in the wake of trauma, review MENTOR’s guide here.
- This link provides advocacy and community engagement organizations that are working to support the AAPI community, expert guidance on language, and resources surrounding the history of racism against AAPIs.
- Resources from NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development’s to stop the Asian hate movement.
As the unifying champion for quality youth mentoring in the United States, we are dedicated to supporting our country’s youth to become engaged citizens who not only fight against hate but lead us to create a more just and peaceful world.
