In Real Life, National Mentoring Month Blog Series

IMG_0783_2On January 15, 2016, nearly 300 mentoring pairs attended the Boston Celtics “Mentoring Night” at TD Garden. The evening allowed mentors and mentees the opportunity to participate in special pre-game and in-game recognition opportunities and enjoy an engaging experience, all in support of National Mentoring Month and MENTOR’s In Real Life campaign. Celtics athlete Marcus Smart is featured in the campaign and talks extensively about the importance of mentoring in two recent videos.

These video clips were shared at several points during the night to the packed arena, with a tagline encouraging fans to become mentors. A clip from Boston Mayor Marty Walsh was also played, in support of MENTOR’s Massachusetts affiliate, Mass Mentoring’s “Mayors Mentoring Movement“. Keisha Gamble, a mentor with Friends of the Children Boston, was honored with the “Heroes Among Us” award and received an ovation from the crowd when acknowledged during half-time for her longstanding commitment to mentoring.  “Mentoring Night” was made possible due to the generosity of Celtics Shamrock Foundation and continued partnership with Mass Mentoring.
