Kicking Off Advocacy August 2021!
July 29, 2021
Achieving MENTOR’s mission – to fuel the quality and quantity of mentoring relationships for America’s young people, and to close the mentoring gap – requires community and systems-level change. History teaches us that social change does not happen without advocacy. As mentors, program leaders, and members of the movement, we must learn to be effective advocates for our youth, because the level of change that we seek does not happen without public policy.
For this year’s Advocacy August, we’re providing you with opportunities to build your skills and act now in order to advance policies that will help give every young person the relationships they deserve. See below for a list of ways you can participate.
BUILD YOUR SKILLS
- Grassroots Advocacy 101 Training Webinar: Kick off the month on August 2 with a webinar on grassroots advocacy hosted by MENTOR’s Government Relations team. After a presentation, there will be an open Q+A with congressional staff. This webinar is open to all members of the mentoring movement and community.
- Check out our advocacy resources. MENTOR’s Government Relations Team has created a number of resources to help you build up your knowledge and skills. Resources range from general grassroots advocacy tips to issue-specific research and talking points.
ACT NOW
- Contact your Members of Congress. Take just two minutes to write to and tweet at your representatives in Congress, urging them to support policies that will expand and enhance mentoring opportunities for youth across the country!
- Nominate a Mayor for Mentoring. Check out this webpage to learn what Mayors across the country are doing to elevate youth mentoring in their community. Do you know a Mayor who deserves recognition? Nominate them here!
